My name is Israel (Yakko) Matamoros, and I joined Northside’s staff in the summer of 2014. I have the blessing to serve at People of Hope, which is Northside’s second campus. At People of Hope, I have the privilege to serve our community side by side with wonderful volunteers. I lead our English as a Second Language program, coordinate our after school program, and teach a Bible study, also leading our worship service for Spanish speakers. I thank God for the opportunity to be here. I can see God’s hand working through us and for this, I am so grateful.
Growing up, I served in the Church in Mexico in our children’s ministry, youth programs, and in my local church, as well as in my conference. My work consisted of designing programs with the purpose of having a closer relationship with our God as a Lord and Savior. I also started a mime and clown ministry in order to share the good news of salvation in a different way.
In the summer of 2006, I came to this country through a program called Camp America. I was placed at Buffalo Mountain Camp in the Holston Conference of the Church, where I served as a camp counselor for four consecutive summers. I was so blessed to experience the love of God in a very different and unique way. I made lifelong friends, and most importantly, I meet my sweet Chelsea.
Chelsea and I got married at Buffalo Mountain Camp, and we have three awesome and precious kids: Max, Violet and Jude. And every day is an adventure. Trust me!!!
